Entamoeba muris Provides a Mouse Model for Amoebic Colitis

In this study, we investigated whether Entamoeba muris, traditionally regarded as a non-pathogenic intestinal amoeba, could serve as a mouse model for amoebic colitis. Infection of BALB/c mice induced colitis-like pathological changes and enabled the evaluation of host immune responses associated with intestinal colonization. We found that E. muris colonization was closely associated with T-cell-mediated immune responses and intestinal inflammation. These findings suggest that E. muris infection provides a practical murine model for studying host–parasite interactions and the pathogenesis of amoebic colitis.
